The Darling Boys are the four sons of Briscoe Darling and are very musical. But when they aren't singing or playing their instruments, they are simple silent mountain men. They appeared in six episodes of The Andy Griffith Show and in the TV movie Return to Mayberry. They are played by the bluegrass group The Dillards, comprised of Doug Dillard on banjo, Rodney Dillard on guitar, Dean Webb on mandolin and Mitch Jayne on bass. Their sister on The Andy Griffith Show is Charlene Darling. They are known for being silent.
