"Mayberry R.F.D." is a situation comedy set in the fictional town of Mayberry, North Carolina. The series was designed to replace The Andy Griffith Show in its time-slot on CBS, following its eighth season. "Mayberry R.F.D.", which stands for "Rural Free Delivery", was broadcast for three seasons, from September 23, 1968 to March 29, 1971.

The episode plots are centered around Sam Jones, a widower, farmer and Mayberry Town Council President, and his son Mike Jones. Other recurring characters include Sam's housekeeper Aunt Bee Taylor, Goober Pyle, Howard Sprague, Emmett Clark and Clara Edwards. After Frances Bavier left the series after the second season, Alice Ghostley played Sam's cousin and housekeeper Alice Cooper.
