A vacancy opens up for the head of the town council and Emmett throws his hat into the ring but Andy talks Sam Jones into running.

This episode mainly serves as the beginning of the end of "The Andy Griffith Show" and starts the ball rolling on using the few remaining episodes to get the audience used to the characters of Sam and Mike for the up and coming "Mayberry R.F.D." spinoff series.
