Earle Hagen

Earle Hagen (July 9, 1919 - May 26, 2008) was the primary composer for The Andy Griffith Show, Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C., Mayberry R.F.D. and Return to Mayberry. He co-wrote the theme song "The Fishin' Hole" with Herbert Spencer, and is heard whistling the theme in the opening credits of every episode of "The Andy Griffith Show". He also composed music for the TV series "Make Room for Daddy", "The Barbara Stanwyck Show", "The Bill Dana Show", "The Dick Van Dyke Show", "I Spy" (for which he received an Emmy Award of three nominations), The New Andy Griffith Show, "The Guns of Will Sonnett", "That Girl", "The Mod Squad", "Eight Is Enough" and "The Dukes of Hazzard". He also received an Emmy Award nomination for Musical Direction for the 1981 TV movie "Stand By Your Man". He worked as composer and orchestrator for many Hollywood films, including the Marilyn Monroe film Let's Make Love, for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Score.
